Area Rugs
An area rug is usually thought of as a rug designed to cover the majority of the floor in a given room.
It is sometimes also referred to as rug of various dimensions, regardless of whether it fills the room or not.
When shopping for an area rug you must measure the room you are shopping for before you buy.
It is essential to know the exact dimensions of the room. How sad it would be if the rug you buy is
too big for the floor!
Color
It should be obvious
that you need to know what color you want to complement the colors of your room. I
think a very good idea is to take a few photos of the room in question and often a sales person may have some wonderful ideas that you may not have thought of on your own. With the
proliferation of digital cameras, this is an easy solution.
It is also worth mentioning that if you are furnishing a brand new
house, you are in a perfect position to start the room form the "rug up" as it
were. Design the room with the rug first. It is far easier to change some paint
and window coverings than to buy a rug to match.
Shape
Every room is not destined to have a square rug. If you look
carefully you can see where an oval
area rug or a round area rug may work as well or better. Be creative
and open your creative eyes.
If you are not creative in this way, go armed with your photos and
ask many salespeople and you
will get many suggestions. Take it slowly and think about it because
it is hard to change your
mind after a purchase is made.
Return Policy
Ask about the store's return policies also. Exactly what are the
conditions upon which you can
return something if you do not like it? Many shops will let you try
it out in your home for a reasonable
period of time. After all if you are happy, you will come back and
buy more area rugs!
